The Role:
We are seeking an individual to take on the pivotal role of Organisational Principal Designer under the new Building Regulations requirements. Your Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications:
  • Registered Principal Designer (RIBA preferred).
  • Previous experience as a building control surveyor/officer (preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in the construction industry, specializing in building control.
  • Solid understanding of Building Regulations and Approved Documents for effective design implementation.
  • Up-to-date technical knowledge in the field.
  • Preferably, experience in both design and construction.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple team members and duty holders to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Capable of working independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in developing company procedures to comply with Principal Designer duties.
  • Oversee administration of company procedures associated with the Principal Designer role.
  • Review project deliverables and provide guidance on Building Control compliance.
  • Manage creation, circulation, and follow-up of compliance documentation.
  • Support project Principal Designers in planning, managing, and monitoring design work.
  • Ensure understanding and enforcement of legal requirements outlined in Building Regulations.
  • Coordinate with other designers to achieve consensus on design compliance.
  • Set and control the plan for achieving design work compliance.
  • Coordinate designers' efforts to ensure compliance.
  • Liaise with principal contractors regarding design work compliance.
  • Monitor progress against the compliance plan until the end of the design phase.
  • Understand technical guidance, codes of practice, and standards to assess and challenge design compliance.
